License Requirements
Are you interested in hunting in Kansas? You will first need to purchase an appropriate license. All residents in Kansas through age 16 to 74 must have a hunting license. A person younger than 16 can hunt only if accompanied by a person who is 18 years old or more. Non-residents, no matter the age, will need a non-residential hunting license; the only difference Is the price you pay for the license.
Kansas residents age 65 to 74 can buy a license for half a price. Residents who are 75 and older are not required to buy a license.
If you are a landowner, when applying for a license, their land must be in the unit they are applying in. You can complete and purchase all licenses online.
Night Hunting in Kansas
Is night hunting allowed in Kansas? Yes, it’s allowed, but only for coyote and furbearers. No artificial lights are allowed, except handheld battery, hat lamps or handheld lanterns. They can be used but only to trap furbearers and coyotes.
Furbearers can also be treed by dogs with handguns and .22 rimfire rifle. Optics that project or amplify light are a source of artificial light and are prohibited. Al kinds of night vision are not allowed per Kansas Hunting Regulations.
Where to Hunt in Kansas?
In Kansas Wildlife Areas are explicitly managed for hunting opportunities, so camping is limited. Some of the areas offer special hunting opportunities and are available only to a limited number of hunters. Check with the local wildlife area office for information about these hunt options.
